Dear Lifestyles@Flitwick

Thank you so much for sending me a nice, thoughtful postcard.

I appreciate you thinking of me and missing me.  Fear not, I’m fine.  It is just that I’ve been so busy lately and I haven’t had much time to drop in to work out, work up a sweat and burn some calories.  I’m feeling kinda bad about it.

This is a good time for me to say how much I like the new leisure centre at Flitwick. It’s still pretty new and shiny, with some impressive kit.  I like the layout with many thoughtful touches.  I’ve tried the swimming pool, which is lovely and warm and yet not too hot.  I’ve not tried out a spinning class or any of the other classes for that matter; but then I think I have to update my membership level for that?  For the most part, I use the gym.

There’s a couple of things I’m not so sure about and I guess we can clear these up easily enough.  You’ve given me a chip key for the Technogym machines so I can record a work out.  I still haven’t got the hang of using these with resistance machines as they keep telling me to do this and do that.  The other thing I’m not so sure about is the volume of the background music: it’s not exactly “background” in the changing room and, on occasions in the gym itself.  It is often far too loud; I keep having to turn my iPod volume up to compensate and I fear I’m doing some damage!  Now that’s just not on, is it?

Everyone who works at Lifestyles seems so friendly and helpful, I really appreciate this.  In fact I must book a proper induction session sometime so I can get the hang of using the key and fine tuning a fitness plan for me.

One of the really nice things I like is the huge variety of people.  Tall, short, fat, thin, young old, flabby or amazingly fit – everyone seems to fit in alright.  When I’m pounding the treadmill, as I often like to include a <50 minute 10k in my workout, it is a good opportunity to do some people watching.  I like seeing newbies find their way around with bits of paper, looking for various machines and I’m still a bit like that myself.  I do like seeing people who are extremely fit, lean and in good shape.  This gives me something to aim for, a reminder that physique is within reach for me.  I say that as I’ve slipped back a bit this year and I like the inspiration from seeing other people move well.

Overall I’m pretty pleased.  I’ve got a great price deal and the general idea is I drop in on my way home from work.  So I do this whenever I can but sometimes I prefer to go for a run or  a bike ride in the fresh air, in the beautiful weather we’re having right now.  I am going to publish a proper, more detailed review at some point but I hope you get the drift of how it’ll flow.

Thanks again for the post card!

Doug.
