I spotted this on the Busway quite recently and wondered what could be going on here. Who’s driving on the Busway?
The pit is a kind of car trap and designed to catch cars which try to drive onto the Busway as their wheels are closer together. Buses on the other hand have a wider track and the wheels fit just inside the metal guide rails.
Seeing the sandbags positioned like that made me question what could be going on? Certainly looks as if a car or another light vehicle has driven onto the Busway.
This, by the way, is at the Station Road, Dunstable. Can someone tell me what’s going on?
I had wondered whether it had anything to do with the recent surfacing work which had taken place; this is where the gritty surface had been upgraded to a smooth tarmac. Perhaps but not completely plausible.
Intrigue, intrigue…..
The council put those bags down for the construction crews several weeks ago. In spite of several reports/reminders from local residents (+Adam), they have not arranged for them to be picked up again. Ditto the various barriers and “Footpath Closed” signs still sitting at various places along the shared use path.
Ah thanks velovoice, that makes complete sense. It is so frustrating when the Council or its contractors fail to finish a job completely, or simply can’t be bothered. Did you see the post about painting over blocked drains? https://thecyclehub.net/painting-over-blocked-drains/
It turns out they left the bags in place for some subsequent additional work being done in a different place. The bags have now been removed.
